Conducting business today is certainly no oasis. The job market is terrible and business opportunities are challenging. There is no doubt that there are amazing hurdles that need to be conquered each day. I have that visual in my head lately. We have all seen the runners perhaps in the Olympic games who are streaking to the finish line but have numerous hurdles to overcome in order to reach it.
Every once in a while you will notice a runner who stumbles on one of the hurdles. It would be hard to imagine that person throwing in the towel and quitting the race. Even though something has tripped them up there is still an obligation to win the race. They may not win but they certainly Ruled the Day in my opinion. They did not give up, they did not whine about the hurdle being there, they did what they were trained to do.
So here we are with a challenging economy that presents its own numerous hurdles. It is very challenging on a mental level to cope with what seems like the never-ending hurdles that are thrown at us. Sometimes we just want to give up. You know what? That’s ok. We are human and it happens. Whether we are inspiring ourselves or our team we have to be cognizant of the fact that our daily hurdles can be mentally taxing. We have to find a way in ourselves and perhaps help our team to Rule the Day. The focus merely has to be on the finish line. The focus is a key element since all too often we are distracted by numerous events that take place on any given business day. Let me ask you this question: Can you imagine a runner allowing their gaze to shift over to the waving fans? Of course not! Now I know how you feel. Business today, unfortunately, is all about multitasking. It’s just a product of our environment. However, I firmly believe that time management on a corporate level will certainly aid to our ability to Rule the Day.
Life and business can be amazingly challenging. We all need to seek what inspires us and hold it out in front of us like a torch. Hold it high and plow forward. If you are having a down moment never hesitate to reach out to your coach, mentor or whoever personally inspires you and draw from their energy. Our businesses need heroes. Heroes conquer and rule the day.
Now please inspire me. What helps you conquer your daily hurdles, keep focused and rule your day? Thanks for sharing your thoughts in the comment section below.

“Helping Others” is what gets me going every day.
WOW!! Super like that comment Kim. Â I totally concur with your statement. Â Thanks so much for sharing.
Naps.
Ok seriously … not multitasking. Imagine your runner focusing on the finish line, jumping the hurdles, juggling flaming cast iron frying pans, and participating in a Twitter chat 😉
There is a lot to get done and many tasks to accomplish. I find that if I put my energy and focus into one of those tasks, even if only to cross the upcoming hurdle, I accomplish far more that trying to ‘do all at once’. I honestly don’t believe, for most of us, that our brains are wired for multitasking and to be good at it requires repetition (like driving).
And I’m only half joking about the naps … I take a few minutes, on a regular basis, to reach out to others with a phone call, a text, an email or a tweet to say hello and ask them how their day is going. A little break to extend a hug and an “I care” someone’s way. It gives me a rest and them some sunshine 🙂
Great post, my friend – thank you! Â
Tobey my wise Canadian buddy. Â I love your points on multitasking. Â I especially love the reach out thoughts. Â It’s those little things that put a spark in our day and usually put a spark in others. Â Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!Â
